Stress/Anxiety:
Do you feel anxious or agitated?
Does your mind race with worry?
Are you unable to relax and enjoy yourself?
Stress takes a massive toll on the body. People who are in a constant state of stress usually have high blood pressure and are at a higher risk of having a heart attack. Stress can cause problems with digestion, which can lead to Irritable Bowl Syndrome and stomach ulcers. When the mind is experiencing stress the body shows signs of strain and degeneration. This can lead to the weakening of the immune system and the susceptibility of illness and disease.
There are certain situations where stress is necessary. For example, if you were walking in your neighborhood and, all of a sudden, you were confronted by a loose vicious dog, bearing its teeth and staring straight at you, your mind would immediately recognize the danger. This mental acknowledgment of threat sends a message to the body in the form of chemical signals known as the fight or flight reaction. Adrenaline is released into the body giving you the extra boost of energy needed to either run or fight. In either running or fighting your body uses the adrenaline that was produced. Once you have returned home and are safe, feeling exhausted from your physical exertion, your body and mind are able to relax and restore the natural chemical balance.
